Monsters
Orcs
Orcs on Faalor seem to be on the decline since the invasion
of the Crags just eight years ago and the complete defeat of
the Illrigger Lord in the south. Orcs though have an
incredible reproductive capacity. Having a short
lifespan (orcs die of old age in their 4th decade of life) and
an early sexual maturation (orcs can become sexually mature as
early as the age of 8), Faalorian orcs are very difficult to
eradicate. They are also incredibly wicked. They
are brutal and pitiless, even among their own kind.
Leadership and power is taken not earned. Faalorian Orcs
come in three flavors, the Chuth, the Mnluug and the Veshnuul.
The Chuth orcs are your typical orcish horde. They
live primarily in the swamps of southern Faalor, but can be
found in some of the more remote northern areas along the
coast. Chuth orcs are on average five and half feet
tall, possess low levels of technological might and are ruled
by a shaman-class of powerful magic-wielders. Chuth
usually do not make permanent camps for themselves but rather
migrate throughout their swampy domain.
Mnluug orcs are chaotic, goblinish orcs who inhabit Faewood
and the Crags. To outsiders, their ways are inscrutable.
They seem incapable of being still. Their quick
movements make them difficult targets to hit. While
certain members of this clan appear to be leaders, their
leaderships seems to be more communal, with patterns of
dominance changing from minute to minute.
The Veshnuul orcs often enslave the Mnluug. Veshnuul
are large, militaristic brutes who primarily inhabit the
Crags. They are extremely organized, well-armed and seem
to possess intelligent leaders. They are often described
as "brave" and "resourceful". Very
few of these orcs possess any magic, but rather rely on highly
coordinated maneuvers and effective use of terrain and mixed
arms to defeat their enemies.
Trolls
While trolls can be found throughout Faalor, living
in small bands, isolated loners, and small villages, trolls
are a surprisingly diverse species. About half of all
trolls possess some degree of magical abilities, whether
something as simple as the ability to regenerate or cast
simple spells to awesome magical talents that would put an
ancient elf on his heals. Some trolls have been known to
stupidly rush a troop of well-armed soldiers to be easily cut
down, while others concoct elaborate plans to out-wit the most
thoughtful tactician. Some trolls appear to be wild
berserkers and still others appear to be simple pacifists, who
want nothing more than to be left alone. On the whole
though, trolls are aggressive, evil creatures with a special
hatred of gnomes.
Elves
To outsiders, Elves are often seen as evil beings on Faalor. They worship an evil
demoness named Myloria, the Consort of Maelwar. Elves
are taught that life has no value and that killing is a
natural form of advancement. Trust is weakness and treachery
is life. There are though small bands of "good"
elves, who appear rational, compassionate and
trustworthy. The trick is telling the good ones from the
bad ones.
Dragons
Faalor sports two dragons. Like most things on Faalor,
there is a good one and a very bad one. Ghuilrym,
The Gold and Vraalrym the Red are but rumors. No one has
seen either of these great beasts, eternal enemies that they
are, in well over 200 years. It is said, they both sport
lairs some where on Faalor and occasional shift to human form
and wander the land.
Splurgorth
The Splurgorth are a strange race of reptile-like
humanoids. They are very rarely seen and very little is
known about them. What is known is that they are very aggressive
in their home territories and enjoy attacking by stealth and
magic. They do not seem to have an understandable
language, but rather seem to communicate through hissing
vocalizations, body language and, possibly, some form of
telepathy. Their main haunts are underground caverns and
ancient ruins.
Stydroidus Kampi (a.k.a. Scuttle Mushrooms,
"Scuttles")
Stydroidus Kampi are a strange form of life that has carved
out a niche in deep, damp underground areas. It is
basically a sentient and semi-mobile form of mushroom. A
single specimen is easy pickings for an inexperienced warrior;
unfortunately Scuttles are communal. Each Stydroidus is
able to launch blobs of acid which are usually only strong
enough to kill small rodents. It's main form of defense (and
reproduction) is it's ability to spew a noxious cloud of
spores when it is injured. If an animal survives the initial
choking cloud, a more horrible death may come as the spores
enter the host's body and slowly grow. In 6-10 days, the
host dies horribly as young Stydroidus Kampi erupt from deep
in the host's lungs and gut. It is rumored that these
nasty little creatures are not natural but are the results of
some elvish magic let loose on the world.
